Isaac
is a gentle, easy going boy who has been a delight to us. His pedigree is impressive,
going all the way back to the original imports. He was bred at All
Creatures Small Farm, owned by Jesse and Kay Patterson, in Stephenville, Texas,
where Mike bought him (along with best friend and pasture mate, Rebekah) for my
surprise anniversary gift. Isaac was the tender age of four months old when I
got him and he has definitely been "the gift that just keeps on giving." Our young
grandaughter, Laura Mae, was thrilled with him and decided that she wanted to
take him into the show ring. Neither of them had any experience. They started
working together regularly. Considering that none of us had a clue as to what
we were doing, Isaac did remarkably well when he and Laura Mae made their debut
in the Pee Wee Trail class. Our daughter, Carla, became interested also and she
and Isaac brought home several ribbons during the show season. He is a wonderful
pet and gets along well with everyone he meets, both people and donkeys. We have
taken him to town several times to greet the public and to be a "spokesdonkey"
for the breed. Our plans are to get Isaac involved in such ventures as visiting
convalescent homes, children's parties, shut-ins who need some special cheering
up, and wherever else a tiny four footed bundle of love is welcomed.
People often ask, "But what do you do with a donkey", and our answer is to introduce
them to Isaac. He is also an excellent example of what can be done with the little
geldings who are so often overlooked. As Isaac would say (if he could speak to
people), "Geldings are GREAT!"
